The Cliff Walk & Easton's Beach 

Due to our unique location right along Easton's Beach and at the start of The Cliff Walk, the Summer is the perfect season to visit The Chanler. The Cliff Walk is a 3.5 mile trail along the rocky shoreline of Newport. Offering unique views of Newport's nature as well as the many architectural wonders of the Gilded Age, The Cliff Walk gives visitors a true look into Newport life. Easton's Beach, only a short walk from your guest room, is the perfect location for a sunrise stroll, a picnic lunch or a midday swim. 

Beaches in Newport

Spend the day at any of Newport's iconic beaches. The Chanler is just a 5-minute walk from the Easton's Beach. Easton's Beach is Newport’s longest beach, perfect for a swim or stay on the sand for some sunbathing or sandcastle building. You will also find an aquarium nearby, volleyball nets, surf lessons and concerts throughout the season. 

Newport Vineyards 

Warmer weather means more comfortable outings at Newport Vineyards.  Wine and cheese classes, comedic performances, yoga and wine tastings are all scheduled this spring at Newport Vineyards. Yacht Charter & Sailing on Narragansett Bay

A popular attraction any season, the summer sun shines brilliantly on the Bay and Newport Harbor, home to the Castle Hill Lighthouse, Newport Harbor / Goat Island Lighthouse, and the unique Ida Lewis Lighthouse at Lime Rock. Take the ferry out to Rose Island and tour one of the most historically significant New England lighthouses, The Rose Island Lighthouse.

Newport International Polo Matches

Get the full Newport, RI summer experience by attending one of the Newport Polo matches. Entering their 27th season this year, this classic American sport invites teams from all around the world and major US cities, keeping this thriving international pastime alive. Not only do the polo grounds have live viewings of the games, but they host culinary events like lobsterbakes. With an exciting lineup (featuring matches with Peru, France, Italy and Ireland), families, groups and friends alike can enjoy this unique sporting experience during their visit to The Chanler.

International Tennis Hall of Fame Open

Watch the world’s best tennis players meet on the grass courts of Newport. Tennis greats compete for the famed Van Alen Cup. The silver Tiffany’s trophy, which is displayed in the museum year-round, is aptly named for Hall of Fame founder Jimmy Van Alen. 

The event features appearances by Hall of Famer Jim Courier, Lleyton Hewitt, Tommy Haas and James Blake who will play on July 22nd.

Newport International Boat Show

Calling all guests with a passion for boating and adventure: Extend your summer into mid-September by attending the 47th Annual Newport International Boat Show. This spectacular sailing event is a true boat show experience, premiering a full range of powerboats and sailboats from both domestic and international companies. Newport Folk Festival 

The Newport Folk Festival was founded in 1959 by George Wein. The festival has served as a hub for the Civil Rights Movement, the revivals of Gospel, Cajun & Blues music and Bob Dylan's famous switch to electric guitar in 1965. Celebrate this Newport tradition with food, beer, wine and cider for all. Tickets are now on sale.

Newport Jazz Festival 

The 64th Annual Newport Jazz Festival takes place August 3, 2018 - August 5, 2018 at Fort Adams in Newport. This year's festival features performances by Sangam, Charles Lloyd New Quartet, Pat Metheny, Andra Day, Gregory Porter, Jon Batiste and many more. A limited number of tickets are still available. 3 day tickets cost $170 while 2 day tickets are $145.
